Anitra Handley-Boyt started her art education as a toddler accompanying her mother to her art classes at American University and George Washington University and studio work at the Smithsonian. She was provided a stool and an easel next to her mom or a seat and clay depending on the class. Anitra worked primarily in pen and ink and pencil on paper for many years. In 1997 Anitra began painting in oils and completed her first painting, Fireflower instead of studying for The Bar Exam. In 1999 Anitra moved to New York and attended several hundred shows to educate herself on pricing and presentation.
